Exhibition: Weather on Steroids - the Art of Climate Change
San Diego Central Library Gallery - San Diego

Hosted at the San Diego Central Library Gallery, Weather on Steroids: The Art of Climate Change Science was a cross-disciplinary exhibition merging visual art with rigorous scientific research. Organized by the La Jolla Historical Society in collaboration with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, the project addressed the critical gap between complex climate data and public understanding.
The exhibition featured eleven artists paired with researchers, led by curator Tatiana Sizonenko and meteorologist Alexander Gershunov. The resulting body of work visualized Southern California’s vulnerability to extreme weather events, including atmospheric rivers, sea-level rise, and shifting precipitation patterns. Through diverse media, ranging from kinetic sculpture and photography on aluminum to installation. The participating artists translated abstract scientific metrics into tangible, emotional experiences, successfully communicating the urgency of the changing climate to a broader public audience.
